2023 RSHGA Male Athlete of the Year Declan Gall has followed up his recent double success at Bendigo by taking out the Open 550 metres at the prestigious Stawell Gift meeting, the highlight of the VAL Calendar. Running off 28 metres he took the prize in a very creditable 1 minute 6.6 seconds. He has qualified for the 400 metres final which will be run on Easter Monday.
He is pictured (on the right) with Charlie Sutherland who is himself no stranger to the Highland Games. Charlie and son Jock spent a couple of weeks with us two seasons ago and competed to a very high standard indeed. Charlie triumphed in the Stawell Frontmarkers 1600 metres. From a mark of 290 metres, he broke the tape in 4 minutes 2 seconds. We hope that he may do the same in Scotland during the summer as we understand that he may well be making a return journey during the Week Away in July.
